Ten out of the 114 Vestas V164-10.0 MW turbines have been installed at the 1.1 GW Seagreen offshore wind farm, Scotland’s largest and the world’s deepest fixed-bottom offshore wind farm.

The first wind turbine was installed at the site some 27 kilometres off the Angus coast in early December. This marked the first time a wind turbine with a double-digit megawatt capacity was installed offshore Europe.

The wind turbines are being transported from Vestas’ turbine marshalling base at Able Seaton Port in Hartlepool and installed at the site by Cadeler’s wind farm installation vessel, Wind Osprey.

The turbine installation programme is running in parallel with the ongoing foundation installation campaign, which is being run by Seaway 7 out of Scotland’s Port of Nigg.

The GBP 3 billion Seagreen wind farm is a joint venture between SSE Renewables (49 per cent) and TotalEnergies (51 per cent).

SSE Renewables is leading the development and construction of the Seagreen project, supported by TotalEnergies, and will operate Seagreen on completion for its expected 25-year lifetime.

First power is expected by early next year with the offshore wind farm expected to enter commercial operation in 2023.
